NWCS: NETHERLANDS WORKING CONDITIONS SURVEY

The NWCS (Netherlands Working Conditions Survey; NEA) is one of the largest periodical surveys on the labor situation of Dutch employees. The NWCS questionnaire is a collaborative project of TNO, CBS and the Dutch Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment. The aim of the NWCS is to fill the need for information that the government, employers, unions and branch organizations express.

  • The NWCS provides information on the working conditions, employability, and health of a large and representative sample of employees in the Netherlands by periodically collecting information in a large sample of employees.
  • The NWCS supports the development of both political and scientific knowledge on the subject of labor.
  • The NWCS serves as official input for the Eurostat-statistics on work-related injury in the Netherlands.

DATA COLLECTION

The NWCS survey is held annually since 2003. The populace consists of employees who live and work in the Netherlands and are within the age range of 15-65 (2003-2013) of 15-75 (since 2014). 23.000 people filled in the survey in the period 2003-2013. By 2014 the sample size increase from 80.000 to 140.000. By now the number of people that fill in the questionnaire has grown to 46.000 annually. To make the sample as representative as possible we weigh the collected data. This makes it possible to make valid conclusions on employees in the Netherlands based on the NWCS.
